Funeral services Jan L. Giese, 82, of Chamberlain will be 10:00 am Saturday, December 15, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation will begin Friday at St. James Catholic Church at 5:00 pm with a scripture service at 7:00 pm.
Jan Louise Barnhart was born November 13, 1936 at Platte SD to Kenneth Floyd and Genevieve Mary (Sweeney) Barnhart. She attended grade school at Notre Dame in Mitchell SD and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1954. She worked for Comstock Insurance and Real Estate Agency in Mitchell as secretary and bookkeeper for three years.
On February 15, 1957, Jan was united in marriage to Donald Giese at the Holy Family Church in Mitchell. They moved to Chamberlain SD in 1958. Jan was a member of St James Catholic Church and St James Altar Society working funerals for many years.
Jan worked at St Joseph's Indian School, Chamberlain School District, Sladek's John Deere and work as a deputy auditor at Brule County in Chamberlain. She was Auditor from 1986 to 2002 when she retired.
Jan enjoyed taking walks with her husband, reading, ancestry research, taking care of her 10 rose plants and other flowers in the yard, visiting with family especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren, and their trips to Florida.
She was blessed with 6 children, 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grand children, 4 step grandchildren, and countless family & friends.
Jan passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at the Chamberlain Sanford Mid Dakota Care Center.
Gratefully sharing her life are her husband Don of Chamberlain, SD; daughters Julie Wood (Bill) of Ankeny, IA; Patty Pibal (John) of Sioux Falls, SD; Diane Totton of Huron, SD; Carol Hloucha (John) of Chamberlain, SD; Linda Rose (Brian) of Pensacola, FL and Mike Giese (Becky) Woodstock WI; and a sister Judy Kenton (Dick) of Mitchell, SD. Preceding her in death were her parents and brothers, Dick, Bob and Don.
