Funeral services for Ivan D. Ketelhut, 83 of Pukwana, SD will be Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery at Ola, SD. Visitation will be Monday, June 30 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hickey-Wevik Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.
Ivan Donald Ketelhut was born February 9, 1925 at Chamberlain to Emil and Frieda (Drafahl) Ketelhut. He grew up on the Ketelhut family homestead and attended the Pretzer Country School in Ola Township. Ivan played basketball and football in high school and in 1943 graduated from Chamberlain High School in Chamberlain. On October 12, 1941, Ivan was confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Ola, SD. Ivan spent his life farming and ranching on his farm south of Pukwana.
Ivan was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, served on the church board, and also on the Red Lake Township Board for many years. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed hunting. He loved to attend the auctions at the area sale barn. His greatest enjoyment was spending evenings with his family and especially the home cooked meals. Ivan moved to Prairie View Assisted Living in Kimball in October of 2007 and then to Sanford Mid Dakota Care Center in April 2008.
Ivan passed away on June 28, 2008 at Sanford Mid Dakota Care Center at Chamberlain at the age of 83 years. Grateful for sharing in his life are his brother Merle Ketelhut and wife Nila of Pukwana, SD; 2 sisters Betty Callen and husband Joe of Chico, CA, and Genevieve Yocum and husband Ralph of Tucson, AZ; 7 nephews and 2 nieces. Preceding him in death were his parents.
