Obituary

Funeral services for Ivadell "Ivy" Head, 72, of Fort Thompson will be 10:00 am Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 1573 Old Lodge Road at Fort Thompson.  Wake services will be Wednesday at 7:00 pm at the Presbyterian Cunkicaske in Fort Thompson.

Ivadell "Ivy" Kirkie Head was born April 28, 1948 to Leon Kirkie, Sr. and Laura Mae Harrison in Chamberlain, SD.  She made her journey home on June 19, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD surrounded by family and friends.

Ivy attended grade school in Fort Thompson, SD and finished high school in Gann Valley, SD.  She met and married Leslie "Corky" Ross in 1969 and to this union five children were born, Lesly, Cameron, Ursula, Bryant, and Dennis Ross.  In 1978, she met Harry Head and on December 28, 1979 she was united in marriage at Pierre, SD.

Ivy worked various jobs for the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.  She also worked at the Red Horse Lodge and Crow Creek High School.

Ivy and Harry raised the five children together the best they could with what they had.  They loved their grandchildren so much words cannot express the love they had for them and everybody she knew throughout her life.

Ivy loved playing softball, playing Bingo, and also going to the casino visiting with her family and friends.

Ivy is survived by Lesly (Larry) Gayton, Cameron Ross, Ursula Ross, Bryant (Melissa) Ross all of Fort Thompson, SD, Dennis (Toya) Ross of Wagner, SD, and Pam Flute of Lower Brule, SD; brothers Richard (Doris) Kirkie and Melby Kirkie all of Fort Thompson; sisters Elnita Rank of Fort Thompson, SD and Patsy Kirkie Marques of Pierre, SD; 26 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents Leon Kirkie Sr. and Laura Mae Harrison; husband Leslie "Corky" Ross, son Marty Shawn Rank, brothers Leon Kirkie, Jr. and Ronald Kirkie Sr., sister Mania Kirkie Mann, great grandson Kymahni Goodlow, and the love of her life Harry Head.
