Priebe

Celebration of life services for Isabel Priebe, 89, of Chamberlain, SD will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated by the Rev. David Roehrich assisted by Deacon Jim Bregel. Visitation will begin at the church on Friday, November 28 at 5:00 followed by a scripture service at 7:00 pm.
Isabel was born May 23, 1936 in Bowdle, SD, to Anton and Perpetua (Heilmen) Roehrich. She attended St. Mary's school in Aberdeen and the Aberdeen School of Commerce. She remembered being a good runner, enjoying baseball and singing Latin during mass on Sundays. She eventually moved to Pierre where her sister and Aunt Sr. Vita lived and began working in the Admissions office of St. Mary's hospital. A friend of hers invited her to a bowling tournament where she was introduced to a man that would become her future husband.
After dating for a year and a half, at age 22, Isabel married Robert (Bob) Priebe in Leola, S.D on June 18, 1958. She joined him on the family farm in Chamberlain and quickly became an active member of the community. She cherished the friendships she formed in these early years, many of which lasted a lifetime. Bob introduced her to bowling and golfing and together they enjoyed competing in tournaments. Bob was especially proud to win the 1963 State Mixed Doubles Bowling contest with Isabel. She would later win a ladies South Dakota state bowling tournament that was televised on TV. In 1977, she began working at St. Joseph's Indian School. She greatly treasured her years working in the Campaign Office to help raise money to care for the homeless children. She was grateful to learn so much about technology and about the generosity of people around the world that wanted to help the Indian children. She also valued the many life-long friendships made during her time at St. Joe's before retiring after 30 years.
As her family grew, she kept busy attending her children and grandchildren's activities. She was grateful for the family trips and cruises organized by her brother Pete. Bob and Isabel enjoyed participating in their bank Mystery trips. Isabel was very creative and loved doing crafts, painting ceramics, sewing and quilting. She also loved working in the yard, mowing and planting flower gardens. On a beautiful day she would enjoy walks around the farm. She liked doing crossword & jigsaw puzzles. Isabel also looked forward to morning coffee time with friends and playing Pitch with their weekly couples' card group.
Isabel was a member of St. James Catholic Church & Altar Society. She co-chaired the funeral committee for many years. Her faith was a very important part of her life. She loved praying the rosary even in her last years as her health declined. She was also active in the Town and Country Homemakers Extension Club. Isabel served as a committee member for the University Week for Women Continuing Education Program through SDSU for many years. She and Bob moved into the Regency Assisted Living center in 2021.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Bob of 67 years; sons Jeff (Gloria) of Chaska, MN, and Todd (Annette) of Chamberlain; daughters Janet (Kelly) Thomas of Kimball and Lori (Dan) Schulte of Kearney, NE; 14 grandchildren: Jordan Priebe, Brandon (Kelly) Priebe, Trent (Jennifer) Thomas, Trista (Dave) Burke, Tayla (Chance) Boyd, Brittany (Cody) Kissel, Tessa (Drew) Kortus, Morgan, Connor Schulte, Traxton, Hudson, Tiegen, Riggs and Drayton Priebe and 13 great grandchildren. Other surviving family include her sisters, Delores and Donna and brothers Tony and Father David Roehrich; sisters-in-law Faye Roehrich and Linda Galm and many loving nieces and nephews.
Isabel was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Peter Paul, Leonard & Chuck Roehrich, sisters Rose Roehrich and Alice Rensch, brothers-in-law Kenny Rensch, Fulton Lickfelt and Ralph Harmon and sister-in-law Barbara Roehrich.
