Obituary

Memorial services for Hope D. Turgeon, 99, of Pukwana, SD will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain, SD.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Hope Devota Turgeon was born December 18, 1925 at the farm home of Pete and Loretta (Houska) Olson in Pleasant Grove Township, Brule County.  In 1930, the family moved to LaRoche Township in Charles Mix County, SD.

Hope attended the Kendall School for eight years and then graduated from Platte High School in 1943.  She attended South Dakota State University for one year and then business school in Rapid City, SD.

She was married to Ben Turgeon on October 25, 1947.  To this union one daughter, Judy Ann was born in 1950.

Hope had various jobs in her life and enjoyed the farm life of gardening and feeding her birds.  Hope was very involved with genealogy and was a member of the Genealogy Club in Chamberlain.

She and Ben owned and operated the Western Inn in Chamberlain from 1968 to 1974.  Ben and Hope were members of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain.

Hope passed away on January 22, 2025 at Sanford Medical Center in Chamberlain.  Survivors include a brother Glenn Olson, a daughter Judy (Roger) Campbell, two grandchildren, Heather (Aaron) Ruwe and Ryan (Kelly) Campbell, and six great grandchildren, Carter (Elise) and Emma Smith, Cooper Ruwe, and Sydney, Ronan, and Hunter Campbell, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband Ben Turgeon in 2016, parents, sisters, Lois Kaltsulas and Pearl Nachtigal, nephew Theodore Kaltsulas, and niece Louetta Olson.
