Funeral services for Harriett E. Jennesse, 71, of Fort Thompson, SD will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 19, 2026 at Harriett's home in Fort Thompson with burial in the Jennesse Family Plot at Fort Thompson, SD.  Wake services will be 7:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at Harriett's home in Fort Thompson, SD. 

Anyone wishing to follow, the procession will leave from the funeral home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Harriett Evelyn Jennesse was born on January 25th 1955 in Fort Thompson. Her parents are Lloyd Jennesse Sr. of Fort Thompson and Mae Big Eagle of Lower Brule. She was raised in Fort Thompson & Graduated from Crow Creek High School. Then she attended Sitting bull college & Sisseton Wahepton. Throughout her life she received many certifications for food and educational services. She worked various jobs in eagle butte, rapid city , enemy swim, crow creek high school. She was a hard working & Loving Mom, Grandma & Auntie.

Harriett was a Traditional dancer and Sun dancer. She made many friends throughout her life in which some became family. She had many Hunkah family as well!! She loved to attend ceremonies and she stayed on the powwow trail throughout her life. She loved to bead and make her own traditional outfits. She also made regalia for others as well, and loved hand stitching and teaching her grand kids & others to make star quilts. Her favorite foods were gabubu rounds, frybread & wojapi. Tripe, potato salad, diet Mtn Dew and when her worm would act up she loved to have her Bing candy bars!!! Her favorite colors were Maroon & Turquoise.

She is survived by her kids Maurice Johnson, Willene Johnson and Joey Johnson, Joanne Rencountre & Kimberly Vassar. Also by her nieces Madeline Bigeagle, Sharon Jennesse, Delta & Elta Cane and Ramona Jennesse. Nephews Stanley & Jason Jennesse. Her grandkids are Phoebe Shaving, Demonte & Kiki Blue Legs, Cairo Bowker, Tokala & Ernie Johnson and Mato & Marice Johnson. Cameron & Andria Johnson. Isabel, Derrica, Narcisse Jr, Raymond & William & many grandchildren and great grand kids that she all loved with all her heart. That we will remember for a life time.

Preceding in her death are her parents Lloyd and Mae Jenness, brothers Lloyd Jennesse Jr, Gordon Jennesse, Harvey Jennesse, Stanley & Elton Jennesse. Sisters Delores Cane, Carmalita Irons, Viola Jennesse. Her sons Vernon Johnson, William Johnson and Narcisse Johnson Sr.
