Funeral services for Harlan Schelske, 80, of Reliance, will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reliance, SD with burial in the Reliance Cemetery at Reliance, SD. Visitation will begin Monday at 5:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain, SD.

Harlan Schelske, 80, of Reliance, SD went to Heaven on May 10, 2023.

Thankfully, he worshipped a God who guarantees and promises everlasting life through Jesus Christ. We are at peace knowing that he is home fully alive and spending eternity with our Father.

While this time has been sad, we are fully trusting in God's plan.

Harlan was born September 13, 1942 to Elmer and Vaneta (Tracy) Schelske in Presho, SD. He was baptized November 1, 1942

He attended country school until sixth grade, graduating from Reliance High School in 1960. He was confirmed on September 23, 1956.

Harlan was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1968. After service, he returned to the Reliance area to farm and ranch for the remainder of his life.

On October 24, 1964, Harlan was united in marriage to Sonia Hight. To this union two sons were born Scott and Craig.

Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Sonia of 58 years; two sons Scott (Anne) of Brandon, SD, and Craig (Jennifer) of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren Ellie, Tyler, Parker, Nicholas, Regan, Evelyn, and Grayson; sisters Myrna Hale of Plattsmouth, NE and Lorna (Jerry) Kistler of Chamberlain; and many special nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents Elmer and Vaneta Schelske, sister and brother-in-law Judy and Doug Brewster, and brother-in-law Billy Hale.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be established in Harlan's name.
