Funeral services for Floyd E. Pretty Sounding Flute, Sr., 82, of Lower Brule, SD will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at the Golden Buffalo Convention Center in Lower Brule, SD with burial in the Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery at Lower Brule, SD.  Wake services will be Monday at 7:00 pm at the Golden Buffalo Convention Center in Lower Brule, SD.

Floyd E. Pretty Sounding Flute was born July 15, 1938 in Winner, SD to Herbert Pretty Sounding Flute Jr. and Annie Tompkins.  At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.  After his discharge he worked for the Corps of Engineers until he was injured in 1973 and was almost killed.  He was put on Workman's Comp.

When he was young he was a good mechanic and loved to work on cars.  He also loved spending time with all his grandkids and great grandkids.

He was united in marriage to Shirley Florence High Elk on January 7, 1960.  To this union seven children were born: Samuel G., Emery D., Floyd Jr., Victoria J., Ervin G, Irving J., and Clinton H.

Floyd and Shirley loved going on trips with the Lower Brule Elders.  They both spoke fluent Lakota.

Floyd passed away on November 24, 2020 at home in Lower Brule, SD at the age of 82 years.  Gratefully sharing his life are his children Samuel G., Emery D., Floyd Jr., Victoria J., Ervin G., and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents Herb Pretty Sounding Flute Jr. and Annie, his wife Shirley, two sons Irving J. and Clinton H., four brothers Levi, Daniel, David G., and Virgil, two sisters Loretta Ann Dempsey and Avia Grassrope.
