Funeral services for Eva Birchfield, 92, of Oacoma will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2026 at the Hickey Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain, SD.
Eva Gladys Birchfield was born March 23, 1934, in Eureka Springs, AR, to Jerry & Gertrude (Higginbotham) David.
On September 27, 1950, Eva was united in marriage to Joe Birchfield, and to this union, two daughters, Sherry and Connie, were born. In August of 1954, they moved their family to Oacoma, SD.
Eva was involved in many projects and committees over her lifetime. She was a very active long-time member of the United Church of Christ.
Eva worked at Al's Oasis for many years until she purchased Ritchie's Shoe Store on Main Street, Chamberlain. When she sold the store, she retired so she could be available to take care of her grandchildren. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Proceeding Eva in death are her husband Joe Birchfield, her parents and siblings, and son-in-law, Bill Hansen.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Hansen and Connie (Haven) Talich, both of Oacoma. Her grandchildren, Angela Oliver of Chamberlain, John Talich of Box Elder, Nichole Muth of Sioux Falls, Melissa (Wes) Chmela of Oacoma, Kit (Rachel) Talich of Harrisburg, Billy (Blair) Hansen of Chamberlain, Aaron (Sarina) Talich of Madison. Her great-grandchildren, Ryan Geraets of Dell Rapids, Brandon Geraets of Baltic, Stephanie Geraets of Dell Rapids, Kordel Chmela of Aberdeen, Jayd Chmela of Pukwana, Lyza Chmela of Oacoma, Chase and Hatcher Hansen of Chamberlain, Emery Menning and Aurora Talich of Harrisburg, Oliver and Hattie Talich of Madison. Great-great-grandchild, Owen Kramer of Dells Rapids.
She loved the Lord and is now enjoying the glory of Heaven!
