CROW CREEK - April 2, 2022, Eunice Elizabeth St. John, 73, member of the Crow Creek Nation, passed away peacefully at home with her children around her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Big Bend, SD with burial of the ashes in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery at Big Bend, SD.

Born at home, October 7, 1948, Big Bend, South Dakota to Alvord and Elaine St. John (Left Hand) Eunice was the eldest of 11brothers and 1sister.

Eunice attended Standing Rock Community School, graduating in 1967. She gave birth to her first son, Martin, in Kenel South Dakota where she worked as a Community Health Representative for the Standing Rock Nation.

It was during her employment with Standing Rock that she met Edward Martin, a police officer, and to this union 3 children were born, Marlon, Merlin and Marlena.

As a family they moved to Fort Thompson and then to Crow Creek where she worked for the crow Creek Nation Head Start, Community Health Representative for the Crow Creek district and retired upon leaving Crow Creek Housing Authority.

Growing up, Eunice spent many hours with her brothers and her many cousins, playing softball, horseback riding, fishing, fondly sharing the many stories she experienced during her childhood years. As the oldest child she was instrumental and played a big part in her siblings' lives. She enjoyed watching wacipi on the internet, westerns and collecting precious moments figurines.

"Mom was strong and tried to see the best in people, even when no one else would. She tried to help where and when needed. Mom shared her childhood memories with us, and about relatives, most of whom we never got to meet. Mom tried to prepare us for this day, but it's emotionally impossible. We've laughed through tears, tried to prepare ourselves when reality sets in, but to lose your creator, protector, best friend, our mom is the

hardest" - Marlena

Eunice is survived by her mother Elaine, sons Martin, and Marlon, daughter Marlena, brothers Lance, Sterling (Donna) and Kerby St. John. Hunka son wade St. John.

Grandchildren, Alisa and Natosha, great grandchildren, lvanna, Nashaya, Junebug, Justin, Ky'Mani, Kei'Lani, Tori, Keanu, and Carmen.

Preceding her in death is her husband Edward, son Merlin, Dad Alvord, grandchildren Dejoe, Degray, Dimigo, and Verlina, Brothers and sister, Al Jr, Bobby, Maynard, Merle, Dean, Lavonne St. John, Tad, Verl and Vernon walking Elk, Maternal grandparents, George and Mary Jane Left Hand (Poitra), Paternal grandparents Benjamin and Susan St. John (Smells the Earth).
