Funeral services for Dennis M. Schmitt, 77, of Reliance, SD will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 16, 2025 at the Kennebec-Reliance American Legion Hall in Reliance, SD.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Kennebec-Reliance American Legion Hall in Reliance, SD.

Dennis Schmitt was born June 29th 1947 to Delbert and Dorothy Schmitt in Mitchell, SD. Dennis grew up in Kimball and graduated from Kimball High School in 1965. He joined the United States Army in 1967 to 1969, He was stationed in Anchorage Alaska. He met Lana Hall in Reliance SD. They were married on March 25th 1972. They lived in Reliance for two years, then moved to Rapid City for five years. Dennis worked at Black Hills Sanitation and went to business school for a year.

In 1977 Dennis and Lana moved back to Reliance to the Hall Family Farm. Dennis and Lana separated nine years later. Together, they had 3 children; Angela, Derrick and oops Brandon.

In 1993 he went to work for the Schindler Family Farm. He met Donna Falcon in 1999.  They shared a home in Reliance from 2000 until the time of his death.

Dennis loved to ride his Harley, fish, racing lawnmower, hanging out with his kids, grandkids and fix fence. Every August you could find Dennis in Sturgis at the rally since 1971, more than likely bailing Brandon out of jail. He loved to party and be a wild man. Dennis loved to ride motorcycle with his friends traveling all over the east coast rain or shine it didn't matter he was riding. Dennis will be greatly missed by many people.

Dennis is survived by Gail and Steve Leheska, Dianne and Bruce Hanson, his girlfriend Donna Falcon, 3 children, Angela Schmitt (Postma), Derrick Schmitt, Brandon Schmitt, Jennifer Edwards, Desa Cadwell, Elijia Falcon Hardman, Luticia Falcon; 15 Grandchildren, Lilyn, Christopher, Juliana, Arianna, Maddox, Kayleigh, Scarlett, Aviannah, Kolsen, Gavin, Clay, Caden, Landon, Conner, Kaitlyn, and three great grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents Delbert and Dorthy Schmitt, many Aunts and Uncles.
