Funeral services for Daniel I. Rabbit, 51, of Fort Thompson, SD will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2025 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Thompson, SD with burial in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery at Stephan, SD. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at Fort Thompson, SD.
Anyone wishing to follow, the procession will leave at 12:00 p.m. (NOON) on Sunday from the funeral home.
Daniel "Danny" I. Rabbit Sr, was born April 12, 1973 to Arliss M (Metcalf) Rabbit and Wesley E. Rabbit Sr. in Huron SD. Danny loved to go fishing with his older brothers Travis and Wes, and since he was the youngest he was always sent to go get the things they needed while fishing. If anyone wanted to find them, they would be given away by their dog Brownie."
He loved to breakdance with his older brothers. They traveled around the state competing in various competition's including a time where they traveled to Saint Francis, SD with Eric and Joe Sazue to compete in a break dancing competition where they placed second. Danny attended school at the Pierre Indian Learning Center and St. Joes Indian School, before going to Fort Thompson Elementary School and Crow Creek High School. He lived most of his life in Pierre, Fort Thompson, and Stephan, SD. While living there he would work various construction jobs including the Lode Star Casino and First Dakota Construction.
Danny liked to do various things throughout his life including visiting people, playing games, going to picnics and family gatherings, and being a helping hand o anyone who needed it. He especially liked helping out at Feeding South Dakota. With his cousin Chaske Metcalf or helping with church bingo. He liked going for cruises with Chaske to North Shore and the dam, and singing at Powwows with his brother-in-law Wayne and nephews. Danny always made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed stargazing, watching movies, and playing games. His favorite how to watch was the "Walking Dead" series. Unfortunately, towards the end of Daniels life he got diagnosed with stomach cancer. Which sadly took him from us.
Daniel leaves behind one brother, Wesley Rabbit Jr, of Fort Thompson, SD, and two sisters, Adrienne (Wayne) Two Hawks, of Sioux Falls, SD, and Gwen (Lanny) Williams, of Fort Thompson, SD. Also leaving behind his children, Danielle Longstad, Shawna Rabbit, Daniel Berg, Shaniece Berg, Ivy Berg, Tyson Rabbit, Laliyah Rabbit, Precious Rabbit, Arliss Longchase, and Elsie Metcalf. He also leaves behind his grandbabies who he was so excited to finally meet George Emerson Baldwin (Rabbit), and Theodore Daniel Spanier, and many relatives too numerous to count.
Daniel is proceeded in death by his parents: Arliss (Metcalf) Rabbit and Wesley E. Rabbit Sr., his siblings: Elsie M. Metcalf, Travis S. Rabbit, Carla A. L. Rabbit Schunk, his maternal grandparents: Theodore Metcalf Sr. and Elsie (Oakiye) Metcalf, his Paternal grandparents: Philip Rabbit and Florence (Young) Grassrope, his daughter Ellen Louis Rabbit, and the love of his life Clarissa Sargeant.
