Dallas DWayne Michalek

October 22, 1950 to January 30, 2025

Dallas did not wish to have a viewing, however the family would like to invite you to celebrate his life on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 at the Catholic Church in Lower Brule starting at 12:00 pm.

Dallas DWayne Michalek was born to Irene DeSheuquette and Melvin Michalek at Cheyenne River Agency on October 22, 1950. He was one of six children. The family moved to Terraville, SD where Dallas met Carla Kurzenberger and whom he married on December 17, 1970.

From this union, three children were born: Neoma Mae, Michael Duane and Darrell Evans. Anthony Lee joined the family as a baby and was raised alongside Dallas and Carla's other children. Dallas also had two other daughters, Amy and Anita.

Dallas, aka Shorty, Dally or Chaskè by his beloved mom, held many jobs around and within the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe. He had worked construction in his youth and elder years and went to Police Academy. Within the tribe, Dally worked as a wildlife officer, construction at LB Housing Authority and LB Enterprise. He owned D&D Tire and Towing with Carla and the kids for several years. He was also a hunting guide, garbage man and bus driver for the tribe.

His two favorite jobs were when he worked at LB Housing because he enjoyed watching the progress of building houses and providing shelter for families and being a garbage man. He would find various items and turn them from trash to treasure. He loved finding and fixing bikes and toys for kids in the community.

Shorty also loved archery, demolition derbies, racing, and hunting/fishing in his younger years. He would religiously play pinochle on Sundays with Uncle Vern and Uncle Butch, regardless of weather.

In his older years, Dally would continue to hunt and fish but also picked up some new hobbies. He would go rummaging and "Goodwilling" with his sister Janet, life partner Carla and his granddaughters Anna and Caitlyn. He would only choose items that "called to him" for his loved ones.

He also loved watching LB football and boys basketball, as well as cheering on his beloved Buccaneers. He was always talking on the phone to various friends and family members about shared interests.

Dallas always had a dog at his side, and his favorite dogs were Gracie, Brown Dog (Grandma Bernetta's dog), Cindy, Sunshine and of course, his beloved Coco. She was his pride and joy in addition to his grandkids.

Gratefully sharing his life and surviving Dallas was his sister Patsy (Sonny) Michalek; Children Neoma, Michael, Anthony and Darrell (Holly); grandchildren Anna (Robert), Irene (Anthony), James, Ty, Sara, Caitlyn, Noel, Ryan and great granddaughter Addilyn.

He is also survived by niece Melissa, numerous family members and many buddies he met in life.

Preceding him in death were his parents Irene and Melvin, life partner Carla, sisters Gwen, Diane, Janet and brother Darrell, and uncle Vern.
