Dakota Todd Fallis Sr., 28, of Fort Thompson, South Dakota, left us on August 24, 2023, in Fort Thompson, to meet up with the Lord, his dad, big brother and the rest of the family who have left us.

Dakota was born on May 25, 1995, in Rapid City to his father, Timothy "Tim" Fallis, and mother, Maxine Broken Rope. He was raised by his paternal grandparents, Sandy and John Abernathy, from the time he was a baby until becoming an adult.

Dakota attended Chamberlain Elementary School, Dakota Middle School in Rapid City, Chamberlain High School and Crow Creek Tribal High School in Stephan, where he first gained an interest in working on cars and other vehicles, from engines to brakes to body repair. Dakota quickly became a highly skilled self-taught auto mechanic and enjoyed working on cars, trucks and other vehicles whenever he had the opportunity to do so.

He was a good, loving father, son, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle and friend. He was very friendly and had a notable sense of humor.

Dakota was still grieving for his older brother, Shane, who left us earlier this year. So sad. They both were too young, leaving us too soon. May the Lord be with them and keep them safe and in no more pain. Thank you, Lord, for that. We will miss Dakota so much until we meet again. We love you, Dakota.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sons, Dakota Fallis Jr. and Harper Fallis, of Crow Creek Reservation; wife, Stephanie Pietz Fallis, of Pierre; brothers, Matt Pickner, of Sioux Falls, Tyrone Broken Rope, Chris Broken Rope and Chase Quick Bear, all of Rapid City; sister, Alicia Biskeborn, of Sioux Falls; mother, Maxine Broken Rope, of Rapid City; stepmother, Jory Brouse, of Lower Brule; paternal grandparents, Sandy and John Abernathy, of Crow Creek Reservation; all of his aunties and uncles, too numerous to name; all of his cousins, also too numerous to name; and all of his friends – they know who they are.

He was preceded in death by his father, Timothy "Tim" Fallis; brother, Shane Fallis; paternal grandfather, Cleveland "Chucky" Fallis II; maternal grandmother, Joan Janis; paternal great-grandparents, Kenneth Hopkins and Verna Roach Hopkins and Cleveland Sr. and Ethel Fallis; special paternal great-grandparents, Pete and Francis Hopkins; uncle, Kalvin Johnson; aunts, Cathy Hay, Lynelle Fallis and Jacqueline Johnson; and several great-uncles and great-aunts.
