Funeral services for Curtis McGhee, 56, of Crow Creek will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Diamond Willow Ministries, Fort Thompson. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the Lower Brule Community Center, Lower Brule, SD and 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2021 at Diamond Willow Ministries, Fort Thompson, SD
Curtis Robert McGhee was born September 12, 1964 to Erwin "Doe Doe" LaRoche and Rose Quilt. In that same year of birth, he came to live with Pat and Robert "Bumpy" McGhee. On October 19,1971, he was officially adopted by the two.
Curtis attended Crow Creek Tribal Schools until the age of 17. He then went to Black Hills youth camp for two years. After that, he returned home to his stomping grounds of Crow Creek and Lower Brule.
He would randomly work as a ranch hand for many local ranchers and farmers. He also did other random jobs throughout his life.
Curtis had a strong passion for horses. He enjoyed taking long horseback rides either with family or friends or just a solo ride of just a cowboy and his trusty horse.
Curtis passed away on February 21, 2021 at Lower Brule, SD at the age of 56 years.
He is survived by his siblings Roxanne (Jack) Fitzler of Parkston, SD, Brenda (Paul) Morris of Mitchell, SD, and Quintin McGhee of Fort Thompson, SD, brothers Earl LaRoche Sr., Darrel LaRoche, Jarrid LaRoche, Troy LaRoche, Dillion LaRoche, Jasper Eagle Star, and Basil Eagle Star, sisters Connie LaRoche, Anita (David) Flute, Deedee Bad Horse, Dorrie (Troy) Estes, Danielle LaRoche, Judy (Kendall) Johnson, Nancy Eagle Star, Dulcy Eagle Star, Margaret Eagle Star, and Melissa LaRoche, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Pat and Robert "Bumpy" McGhee, two brothers Erwin LaRoche and Leighton LaRoche, one sister Patricia (Lakota) Gott, and many aunts and uncles.
