Memorial services for Clayton DeGroot, 81, of Chamberlain, SD will be 10:00 am Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain.  Burial of the ashes will be at a later date in the Emanuel Cemetery at Springfield, SD.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Chamberlain-Oacoma Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 426, Chamberlain, SD 57325.

Clayton DeGroot, 81, passed away on April 8, 2018 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Clayton DeGroot was born June 7, 1936 on the farm in Charles Mix County to Stuart and Florence (Judy) DeGroot.  He graduated from Springfield High School in Springfield, SD in 1954.

In 1956, Clayton moved to California where he began working in the brick trade.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1959.  After his discharge in 1962, he returned to California until 1970 when he moved back to Springfield, SD.  In 1980, Clayton moved to Chamberlain where he made his home until the time of his death.

He was a 50 year member of the International Union of Bricklayers.

Gratefully sharing his life are his two sons Kevin and wife Lisa of Lakeville, MN and Dan and wife Jayma of Pecan Hill, TX; two daughters Tracy and husband George Matthews of Grand Junction, CO and Jamie and husband Bill McEntaffer of Pierre, SD; significant person in his life Mike Ostbye and wife Kim of Mitchell, SD; 12 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Sue, twin brothers Larry and Terry, and a step daughter Aleta.
