Christopher Walter Rockwood aka Chris Rock was born on February 12, 1971, at Chamberlain SD, to Randy Rockwood Sr. and Judy (Howe) Rockwood of Fort Thompson, SD.
At a very young age he was given the name "Wani Napciwanka" nine lives by his uncle Everett.
Chris attended school at Fort Thompson Elementary and graduated from Crow Creek High School in May 1990.
While in high school he participated in football, basketball, and High School Rodeo. While at a rodeo in Chamberlain the bull broke Chris' hand and he refused to ride it, so Randy made Joe Shields ride it for him.
Chris worked at various jobs with the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe. His last job was with Tero where he kept Terry in line. He worked for Chase Roofing in Pierre, SD.
Chris' favorite memory was attending the Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming. Chris was very proud of Paisley and Priya for being the cow-girls they have become. He enjoyed going with them to Chamberlain Play Days. He spent his last summer with his nieces, nephews, and grandkids at Almosta Ranch. He also attended the Dakota 38 ride in 2015 through 2017.
He was blessed with a large family: brothers Randy Jr. and Elmer of Fort Thompson, SD; sisters Sylvia, Rebecca, Randi Lynn all of Fort Thompson, SD, Brandy and Robyn of Pierre, SD; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandkids who were very special to him: Ariel, Kato, Brixlee, Charlie, and Bayla.
Chris journeyed to the big arena in the sky at the age of 50 years at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD with his family by his side.
Chris is survived by his mother Judy Rockwood, paternal aunt Charlotte Rockwood, paternal grandparents Clark and Pauline Zephier, maternal aunt Eleanor Dunn, and his brothers and sisters.
Chris was met at Heaven's Gate by his dad, grandma's Libby and Clara, cousins, relatives and many classmates to CCHS 1990.
Family cookouts and chasing horses will be different without him.
