Cheryl Ann Galpin (Payton), age 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at her home in Kimball, South Dakota.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Kimball Protestant Parish, with interment at a later date.

Cheryl was born on December 12, 1946, in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Howard and Johanna Payton (Hoffmann). She grew up in Kimball and graduated from Kimball High School in 1964.  Cheryl met the love of her life, Lorren "Larry" Galpin, while he was working in Kimball. On May 29th, 1965, they were united in marriage in Pipestone, Minnesota. Together they made their home in Mitchell, SD and Sun Prairie, WI before returning to Kimball, where they built a life together and raised their family.

Cheryl made many lifelong friends throughout her years of work. She worked seasonally processing wild game alongside her mother and sister Judy and later spent many years at the Aurora-Brule Nursing Home. Some of her favorite memories were made working beside her mother in the nursing home's kitchen, serving residents, and building lasting friendships.

Cheryl was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured time spent with those she loved. Through the years, she was involved in her community. She was active in the early years of the PTA, delivering meals through the Senior Meals program, and providing transportation and companionship to area seniors through ROCS.  She found great joy in helping others and making a difference in the lives of those around her.

She is survived by her children, Cheryl Anglin (John Stamp) of Canton, SD; Donald Galpin (Shellie Pickner) of Pukwana, SD; Matt (Guyla) Galpin of Kimball, SD; Mark (Luz) Galpin of Belle Fourche, SD; Joseph Galpin of Mitchell, SD; John Galpin of Circle Pines, MN; and Harley (Jenny) Galpin of Sioux Falls, SD; her grandchildren, Garret (Sarah) Anglin, Caitlyn (Clinton) Schumacher, DJ Galpin, Janelle (Chris) Locke, Avery Galpin, Annastasia (Adam Kensa) Galpin, Hailey (Adrian) Heim, Elizabeth Galpin, Lola (Samuel Henderson) Galpin, Bryan Galpin, and Joey Galpin; her great-grandchildren, Mya Anglin, Karli Anglin, and Dorothy Heim; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and her siblings Ken Payton of Beaver Dam, Wi; Judy (Bill) Kelly of Mitchell, SD; Marie Schochenmaier of Oacoma, SD; Bill Payton of Sioux Falls, SD; and Jane (Rudy) Rush of Beaver Dam, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Johanna Payton; husband, Lorren Leroy Galpin I; son, Lorren Leroy Galpin II; granddaughter Kayla Galpin; sister, Sharon Payton; sister Kimberly Payton; Sister-in-law Juanita Payton; and brother-in-law Rick Schochenmaier.

Cheryl shared a special bond with her cousin, Tina Hallman, who spent countless hours visiting, helping, and caring for her over the past several years. The family is deeply grateful for the friendship, kindness, and support Tina provided.

Cheryl will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her dedication to family, her caring heart, and her ability to make others feel at home. Her love and guidance will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
