Funeral services for Charlotte M. Rockwood, 70, of Fort Thompson, SD will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 30, 2024 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Thompson with burial in the Lakeview Cemetery at Fort Thompson, SD. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Thompson, SD.
Anyone wishing to follow, the procession will leave at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Saturday from the funeral home.
Charlotte Mary Rockwood was born May 10, 1954 in Chamberlain, SD to Ronald Orville Skunk and Elizabeth 'Libby' Rockwood-Day.
Charlotte's Indian name was Ni-Hopa (Pretty Woman) and was fondly known by her grandkids as "Smoker Gram".
Charlotte had seven children: Raquel, Kimberly, April, Jessie, Eric, twins Randy and Mandy. Charlotte lived her life in Fort Thompson, SD. In 1972 she graduated from Stephan High School.
Charlotte worked various jobs on the Crow Creek Reservation at the Harrison's Brothers Cafe, Lode Star Casino and Crow Creek Sioux Tribe Food Distribution Program until her health became an obstacle. She then spent her days making sure she had snacks ready for the grandkids, a place for her kids to call home, working on crossword puzzles, reading the weekly Central Dakota times and catalog 'shopping.
Charlotte passed away December 21, 2024 at her home in Fort Thompson, SD at the age of 70 years surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Gratefully sharing her life are her children Raquel Moffer-Fiona and Symone; Kimberly Rockwood-Dayton, Darren, Belle and Eric; April Rockwood-Lilianna, Laila, Yuri and Lukasee, Jessie Gourneau, Josi-great grandson Damon, Alex and Harper; Randy 'Bub' Rockwood-Adam, Rayden and Zayler, Mandy (Russell) Rockwood-Savanah, Lyla, Tucker, Special niece Delcie 'Teepse' Voice and nephew Randy 'Sonny' Rockwood Jr., Numerous nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
She joins in Heaven her parents Ronald Orville Skunk and Elizabeth Rockwood, a beloved son Eric Gourneau, her sisters Delores McGhee and Sylvia Rockwood brothers Randy 'Shadow' Rockwood Sr., Robert 'Droop' Drapeau Sr., Bryce Drapeau and Patrick Pomani.
