Funeral services for Charles "Jim" Huffman, 82, of Hill City, SD formerly of Kimball, SD will be 10:00 am Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Kimball Protestant Parish in Kimball, SD with burial in the Kimball City Cemetery at Kimball.  Visitation will begin Monday at 5:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Kimball Protestant Parish in Kimball, SD.

Charles "Jim" Huffman, 82, of Hill City, SD formerly of Kimball, SD passed away on October 11, 2018 at Rapid City Regional Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.

Charles James Huffman was born July 24, 1936 in Mitchell, SD to Glen and Lula (Kelly) Huffman.  He attended school and graduated in 1954 from Ethan High School in Ethan, SD.

On May 20, 1956, Jim was united in marriage to Dorothy Hildebrand in Mitchell, SD.  They began their life together in Alexandria, SD then relocated to Ethan, SD. In 1962, they moved their family to Kimball, SD when Jim purchased the Kimball Locker. Together they operated the locker until 1966 when he began his career with the S.D. Department of Transportation.  He enjoyed working for the DOT and gained many close friendships with his co-workers.  They had many interesting experiences together.  Jim retired from the DOT in 1993 and they fulfilled their dream of moving to the Black Hills.  Jim remained there until the time of his death.

Jim was active in the community with the fire department and ambulance service. He was always joining the neighborhood kids, along with his own, for any outdoor activities throughout the year.  Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren all of the skills of both.  Many camping trips with the family involved time on the boat reeling in the walleyes and enjoying each other's company. During colder times is when the family would enjoy indoor activities such as the game of Aggravation or a good game of cards.

Gratefully sharing his life are his two children Barbara (Mark) Behrends of Fairmont, MN and Timothy (Carmen) Huffman of Kadoka, SD; four grandchildren Curtis (Casey) Huffman of Mobridge, SD, Kylie (Tyler) Thoeny of Fairmont, MN, Keith (Lindsay) Huffman of Rapid City, SD, and Alyssa (Elliot) Szutz of Charlotte, NC; ten great grandchildren; brother Harry Huffman of Ethan, SD; brother-in-law Bob Folan of Kimball, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Dorothy; sister Colleen Van Lithsenborgh; two sisters-in-law Eileen Huffman and Luella Folan; and brother-in-law Bruce Hildebrand.
