Funeral services for Carla A. L. Rabbit-Schunk will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Thompson, SD with burial in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery at Stephan, SD. Wake services will be Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Thompson, SD.
Carla Ann Louise Rabbit- Schunk, 56, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. She was also known to a lot of people by "Grandma Rabbit" throughout high school and living on the streets in Rapid City, SD.
Carla was a very caring individual. She would help anyone who needed her help. She believed in her Lakota ways of life and catholic ways. She will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her and got to know her. Carla was a very carefree person who wanted to see the world after graduating from high school. She attended Job Corps in Nemo, Kicking Horse and Ogden, UT. She took up a lot of trades while she attended these places. She lived most of her life in Rapid City, SD.
Carla was married to Timothy Schunk after coming home from Job Corps and lived in Pierre until they went their separate ways. She has not seen or heard from him over about 25 or more years after they separated. No children were made during their marriage to him.
Carla moved to be by our dad in Rapid City, SD. She was daddy's girl and always wanted to be by daddy. While in Rapid City, she met the father of her children Llewellyn Long Wolf Sr. and to this union three children she had with him, Llewellyn Long Wolf Jr., Lindsey Long Wolf and Yamni Long Wolf. She loved her children dearly. They will miss her dearly.
Carla was a person who anyone could count on to do anything you wanted her to do. She loved taking care of her children and tried her best to be there for them. But with alcohol being in her life too her away from family and friends. She lived on the streets of Rapid City, SD and helped all the homeless people. She made a lot of Hunka family while living on the streets. She knew how to get things done whenever she needed money by doing beading and other arts and crafts. She was a jack of all trades.
Carla came home to spend the last days of her life with her family on the Crow Creek Reservation after finding out about her health problems.
Carla was the second oldest of all her brothers and sisters. She had three sisters and five brothers: Adrienne (Wayne) Two Hawks, Wesley Rabbit Jr., Daniel Rabbit Sr., Gwen (Lanny) Williams all of Fort Thompson, SD, Justin and Philip Rabbit both of Rapid City, SD, Elsie and Travis Rabbit who passed away.
Carla leaves behind her sisters and brothers, her children Llewellyn Long Wolf Jr., Lindsey Long Wolf, and Yamni Long Wolf, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, a lot of cousins, aunts, uncles too many to name at this time, also Hunka family that she has made during her life time.
She was preceded in death by her parents Wesley Rabbit Sr. and Arliss (Metcalf) Rabbit, siblings Elsie and Travis Rabbit, maternal grandparents Theodore Metcalf Sr. and Elsie (Oakie) Wounded Knee, paternal grandparents Phillip Rabbit and Florence (Young) Grassrope, many lalas uncis, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren on both sides of the family.
