Funeral services for Carl L. Johnson, 81, of Lower Brule, SD will be 1:00 pm Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD with burial in the Hill Top Cemetery at Iron Nation, SD.  Wake services will be Wednesday and Thursday at 7:00 pm at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.

Carl Leonard "CJ" Johnson was born April 4, 1937 to Gertrude Jefferson and Thomas Johnson, III at Fort Thompson, SD.  Carl attended school at Iron Nation, SD and from there he entered the U.S. Armed Forces.  While he was serving his country he joined the Armed Services Boxing Club.  After three years he was Honorably Discharged and returned home.

Carl went to work with the building of the Big Bend Dam and then the Lower Brule School Services.  He prided himself as being an honest car dealer and mechanic.  He had a great sense of humor and was always up for a good laugh.  He had several nicknames such as "Round Brown", "The Major" and best known as "CJ".  But Carl's greatest passion was loving his children and granddaughter Mercy.

Carl passed away on December 17, 2018 at Avera St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre, SD at the age of 81 years.  Gratefully sharing his life are his sons Charles Johnson, Leonard Johnson; daughter Sonya; granddaughter Mercy Bad Horse; a sister Aleta Johnson; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents Gertrude and Thomas; siblings Martin Harold Johnson, Angeline Johnson, Irene Johnson, Mavis (DeSheuquette) Johnson, and Roberta Suzanne Johnson; special uncle Alfred Ziegler; special cousins Alfred "Tarzan" Walters; Bernard LaRoche, Sylvester "Bucky" LaRoche Jr., and William "Billy" Ziegler.
