Obituary

Funeral services for Burt Casler, 85, of Chamberlain will be Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain. Interment will be at a later date.
Burtis Griffin Casler was born June 9, 1927 in Tecumseh, NE to Gerald Vaughn and Lois (Griffin) Casler. He attended school in Illinois and received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI. Burt was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Dixon on August 31, 1951 at Illinois.
He later was united in marriage to Mary "Bebe" Hill Alston in the spring of 1980 at Baton Rouge, LA. Bebe passed away December 31, 1998.
He was a Professor of Mathematics at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA from 1962-1988. He also taught part time at Northern New Mexico College in Espanola, N.M. after retiring from LSU.
Burt was united in marriage to Virginia Morgan Boussard in January of 2001 in Atlanta, GA.
Burt loved living in South Dakota and spent his time between his home in Atlanta, GA and South Dakota. He also enjoyed wood working, reading, and keeping up with current events.
Burt was a lifetime member of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Illinois, a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain, and also a member of several professional organizations.

Burt passed away on September 10, 2012 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 85 years. Gratefully sharing in his life were his wife Virginia Boussard of Chamberlain, one son James Burtis (Gaylene) Casler of North Carolina; three daughters Linda Casler (David) Alston of Batton Rouge, LA, Margaret Casler (Murville) Alleman in Lafayette, LA, and Nancy Casler (Stephen) Lipp of Katy, TX; two step-daughters Emily Alston (Paul) Jenkin of Gainsville, FL and Sarah Alston of Raleigh, NC ; one sister Lorajo Casler (Louis) Rich of Las Vegas, NV; ten grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two nephews Bradley Vaughn Rich and Kevin Louis Rich both of Las Vegas, NV. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Mary "Bebe" Hill Casler; and one niece Lindsay Ellen Rich.
