Obituary

Beulah R. Smith, 94, of Sioux Falls, SD formerly of Chamberlain passed away on December 13, 2020.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain. Private family services will be held at a later date with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain.

Beulah Ruth (Houser) Smith was born on September 28, 1926 to T.A. "Al" Houser and Lillian (Peters) Houser on a farmstead outside of Murdo, SD. She grew up at Ft. Hale river bottom north of Oacoma, SD the 3 rd oldest of 12 children. She attended high school in Reliance, SD graduating in April 1944. As a young girl she loved horses and horseback riding. She spent much of her time working, doing chores and playing with her siblings and listening to country music whenever she could.

She married Marvin Smith on August 5 th 1944 in Burke, SD and they were blessed with 63 years of marriage and 5 children Marvin, Jr.,  Carolyn, Robert, Karen and Cindy.  After moving in to Chamberlain, Beulah worked at Lee's Motor Inn for 50 years.  Beulah's favorite thing in life was to spend time with her family. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and involved in Ladies Aid and circle meetings. She loved being outside, gardening, walking and reading. She was the sweetest, most caring woman and always put the needs of others ahead of her own throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by all of us.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children and their families; Marvin, Jr (Fran), Carolyn (Brad) Reis, Karen Smith, Cindy (David) Hyronemus; her 15 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 10 great -great grandchildren.  Her brothers and sisters and their families and 5 half siblings & families.

Beulah was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, Sr., son Robert, parents, parents-in-law, 3 brothers, 6 sisters, 7 sisters-in-law, 6 brothers-in-law, and one son-in-law.

Pall bearers will be all of Beulah's great grandchildren whom she loved so much.
