Funeral services for Betty M. Klein, 95, of Chamberlain, SD will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 6, 2024 at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain, SD.  Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.

Betty Marie Klein was born December 14, 1928 to Lewis and Florence (Wood) Herndon at home north of Carter, SD.

Betty started school in 1933 in Carter, SD and in 1935, they moved to Gregory, SD where she attended country school.  She went to Gregory High School where she graduated in May of 1946.  After graduation, she began working at the Missouri Valley Insurance Office where she remained until her marriage.  On July 14, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Edwin Klein at the Methodist Church in Gregory, SD.  They moved to Chamberlain SD on August 10, 1947. To this union five children were born.

Betty worked in the office at the Community Bailey Hospital for a few years before they bought the Bridgette Drive Inn. She quit the hospital to run the restaurant which she did until they sold it in 1981.  After selling the Bridgette, Betty started baking cakes and cookies.  She also baked some wedding cakes for a few of the girls that used to work for them at the Bridgette.  She then began baking for whoever wanted goodies.  She baked all her kids and grandkids wedding cakes, hauling them as far as Rapid City and Bettendorf, IA.

Betty and Edwin started going south for the winters in 1984 and continued until 1998.  They would spend time in Texas, move into Phoenix, AZ, and then to Las Vegas, NV.  They would return when the weather warmed up enough to travel back to South Dakota.

Betty loved to sew, crochet, cook and bake.  She said she wasn't an artist but her canvas was her cakes and cookies and the paint was her frosting.

Betty passed away on December 2, 2024 at home with her daughter by her side. Most of her grandkids and great grandkids had come to visit her in the days prior to her passing.  Everyone got pictures with her.

Gratefully sharing her life are her children Ronald (Mary) Klein of Bettendorf, IA, Nancy Langfeldt of Sioux Falls, SD, and Mark (Ronda) Klein of Chamberlain, SD; ten grandchildren Kimberly (Chad) White of Sioux Falls, SD, Jennifer Limmer of Madison, SD, Audra Korb of Sioux Falls, SD, Aaron (Beth) Klein of Pearlaud, TX, Angela (Brandon) Cattanach of Bettendorf, IA, Adam (Kim) Klein of Vinton, IA, Aric (Amy) Klein of Houston, TX, Asa (Helen) Klein of Denver, CO, Desirae (Patrick) Toomey of Brandon, SD, Arielle (Brandon) Kneifl of Yankton, SD; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandsons; and two sisters Eleanor Klein of Gregory, SD and Joyce Scholle of Canton, SD.

Preceding her in death were her parents Lewis and Florence Herndon, her husband Edwin, a son Nicholas, daughter Patricia, son-in-law Louis Langfeldt, and sister Dorothy Robinson.
