Betty June Callen (Ketelhut)

June 10, 1927- May 1, 2022

Interment service for Betty Callen will be on Saturday, June 25 th at 1:00 PM at the Riverview Cemetery in Chamberlain, South Dakota.

Betty Ketelhut was born in Pukwana on June 10, 1927 to Emil and Freida Ketelhut.  She attended school in Chamberlain and then went to college in Greeley, Colorado where she met her husband, Joseph Floyd Callen.

Joe and Betty were married on June 22, 1947 in Chamberlain.  After living for a while in Alaska, they moved to Billings, Montana where she was a school secretary for several years.  Later into retirement, they moved to Tucson, Arizona, and then moved to Chico, California when they needed their son and son in law to take care of them.

Betty loved music and all types of sports.  She was an avid golfer and enjoyed painting and flowers, especially the flowers at the Botanical Gardens in Puerto Vallarta, México.  She and her husband were proud supporters of the University of Arizona woman's softball and basketball teams.  She was a member of PEO women's club.

She is survived by her son Wayne P of Cambodia; son Craig and son in law, Tom, of Butte Meadows, California and Puerto Vallarta, México; grandson Mike (Elizabeth) of London, England; granddaughter Kacey (Jason) of Eagle, Colorado; brother Merle (Nila) of Pukwana, South Dakota, grand dogs Gracie and Sebastián of Butte Meadows, California and Puerto Vallarta, México.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Frieda, her husband, Joe, sister Gen Yocum (Ketelhut) and brother Ivan Ketelhut.

Hickey Funeral Home in Chamberlain is in charge of the arrangements.
