Armond Joseph "Butch" Glasford was born at the IHS Hospital in Wagner, SD on April 27, 1955 to Bernard W. Glasford Sr. and Violet M. (Langdeau-Glasford) Rekow. His father passed away in 1957. In 1958, Violet married Vernon V. Rekow, Sr. who became Butch's dad until his death in 2016.
Butch attended elementary and middle school in Fort Pierre, SD until 1971 where he began his HS freshman year at the brand new Lower Brule High School. In high school, Butch was well known for his center court "wicked" hook shot in basketball. He also served as student manager for most of the boys' sports throughout his entire high school years. He graduated from Lower Brule in 1973. Butch worked many jobs over the years in Lower Brule, Pierre, Watertown and Rapid City, but his health issues limited him from doing all that he wanted in life. That did not stop him from doing all that he could and enjoying everything life had to offer, no matter how big or small. He was dynamite in a small package and had a personality that filled any room he was in.
Butch never married or had children because he liked to refer to himself as a "playboy" bachelor. Because of him making statements like this, his sense of humor is legendary. Nothing overshadowed his devotion as a Minnesota Vikings fan. Anyone would have to look hard to find a piece of his clothing, a decoration in his room, or any part of his world that did not have his beloved Minnesota Vikings emblem on it. He commented that he was looking forward to watching the Vikings play the morning he passed. Another of his greatest pleasures in life were listening to Elvis Presley music and watching Elvis movies. He had one great wish to someday travel to Graceland in Memphis, TN to visit the home of Elvis. He never got to make that journey but we know he is sitting and singing all of those songs right alongside Elvis now because after all, he did know the words to each and every one of them. Butch was a martial arts buff as well, and Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, were his heroes. His love for action movies put Vin Diesel and Claude Van Dam right up there with Lee and Norris.
Of all the things Butch loved in life, it was his family he loved the most. They meant everything to him and just a phone call from one of them was the highlight of his week. The phone calls he spoke of the most were the ones he had with his very special nephew, Terry Lee Pexa. Terry Lee took such good care of him from afar, was never too busy to take his Uncle's calls, and made sure his Uncle Butch always had what his heart desired in Minnesota Vikings or Elvis memorabilia. For that, Butch was eternally grateful.
Butch remained a devout Catholic his entire life and was a very spiritual person. He not only quoted the bible, he also worked every day to live by its teachings and made everyone in his world a better person for it.
Butch left this world to join his parents and his savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at the age of 65 years old from rapid complications of the COVID-19 virus. Grateful for having shared his life are his four brothers; Bernard W. "Smiley" (Diana) Glasford, Jr. of Canyon Lake, TX, Leon "Skip" (Clair) Glasford of Tucson, AZ, Vernon "Shorty" (Penny) Rekow, Jr. of Patterson, CA, and Keith "Squeak" (Rikki) Rekow of Casper, WY, and 8 sisters; Dolores (Mike) Riley of Chandler, AZ, Sharon Brown of Sioux Falls, SD, Renee (George) Dietrich of Hilltop Lakes, TX, Cheryll (Fritz) LaRoche of Lower Brule, SD, Desine (Raymond) Norris of Pasadena, TX, Veronica Feeney of Menomomee, WI, Eyvonne Rekow of Lower Brule, SD, and Bettina (Dave) Bergren of Sacramento, CA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Pearl & Gertrude Brown, maternal grandparents Joseph & Lottie Langdeau, his mother Violet M. (Langdeau) Rekow, and his fathers Bernard W. Glasford, Sr. and Vernon V. Rekow, Sr.
