Funeral services for Antoine Allen LaRoche, 83, of Fort Pierre will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at the Lower Brule Community Center with burial in the Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery at Lower Brule, SD. Wake services will be at 7:00 p.m., Sunday and 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Lower Brule Community Center.
Anyone wishing to follow, the procession will leave the Funeral Home on Sunday at 12:00 pm (noon).
Ozanzan T'o Hoksila-Antoine Allen LaRoche Jr. "Pudgy" was born on November 7, 1942 in Fort Thompson, South Dakota to Antoine LaRoche Sr. and Vera St. Pierre. He grew up in LaRoche Bottom and went to boarding school at PILC and Flandreau Indian School, he also attended Stanley County until his junior year. He then enlisted in the Army during peace time. After the army he met Diane Pourier and in this union they had two children, Shawn and Theresa LaRoche. After moving to and from California he then married Rachel Eagle Thunder and in this union they had five children, Jolene, James, Damon(Kojak), Kim, and Jeremy. Pudgy enrolled in trade school as an electrician in Jackson Minnesota. He held many jobs throughout the community such as working at the Fort Thompson dam, on a fencing crew, a ranch hand most of his life, ambulance director, and pow wow committee with Kenna Harmon. He eventually retired as a caretaker of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribal ranch. He helped raise his grandchildren, Joshua, Torey, Tia, Taylor, Lara, Jeremy, and Sunni, his great grandchildren Allen, Gabby, and Auriemma. Pudgy had a great sense of humor, always teasing and joking around with people making them laugh! He enjoyed watching softball, UConn lady Huskies, New York Yankees, and horse racing. He especially loved spending time with his great grandchildren and watching them grow, they were his pride and joy!
Pudgy entered the spirit world on March 6, 2026 at 8:51 a.m. at Avera McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls, surrounded by family.
Gratefully sharing his life are his sisters Kay Whitney and Emma (Cody) Russell of Lower Brule, Roberta Schuler of Idaho, Donna Huber of Minnesota and his brother Harvey LaRoche of Lower Brule. His children Shawn and James of Lower Brule, Theresa and Damon of Sioux Falls, Jolene and Kim or Pierre,. 29 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Special nieces Shyla LaRoche and Fanchon and Cherlyn Reinhard.
Proceeding him in death are his parents Tony and Vera LaRoche. His son Jeremy Laroche. Brothers Marvin, Sam, Louis, Bill, Rick LaRoche, and Francis Ziegler. Sisters Robin and Lana LaRoche, Rita Langdeau, Jackie Jandreau, Sandra Swift Eagle, and Amy Delaney. Hunka sisters Manerva, Effie, and Connie Iron Elk. Grandson Kevin LaRoche. Granddaughters Rachel and Gabriella LaRoche, Krista Goodface, Taylor McGhee and Angel, Kyleigha, Brylee, and Bethany LaRoche and Great grandchildren Evelina Derzab and Vincent Henley.
