Anthony Wayne Bad Horse

Anthony Wayne Bad Horse was born on January 1, 1962 to Daniel Bad Horse and Florence Heck-Bad Horse-Baney. Family and friends called him Tony. Tony passed away in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 64 years old when the Great Spirit called him home on April 8, 2026.

He was always in good spirits and would always lend a helping hand in any way he could. Tony grew up and went to school in Bonesteel (SD). After school Tony decides he wanted to see the country and started a yearlong hitch-hike journey visiting parts of Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming working odd jobs when he could. His journey took him home to Bonesteel to surprise his mother working in the garden. After working various jobs Tony decided to serve his country and joined the Army in 1983 and separated in 1986. Two years later he rejoined the Army from January 1988 thru January 1992 and was honorably discharged. Tony served as an Army infantryman during both tours with the Army. Tony was based at Fort Lewis near Seattle, WA and Fort Benning near Columbus, GA. His assignments with the Army let him tour the world. His assignments took him to Germany, Japan, South Korea and travel throughout the US. Tony lived the remainder of his life in South Dakota working various jobs up until health issues limited his work activities.

Tony was preceded in death by His Father Daniel Bad Horse, Mother Florence Heck-Bad Horse-Baney, Brother Sterling Bad Horse, Sister Mary Jane Bad Horse-Powell, and Sister Hope Bad Horse-Leading Fighter. He is survived by his brother James Bad Horse, Sister in-law Delores Bad Horse, Sisters Julia Baney, Rebecca Baney, Brother Fank Baney Jr, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tony will be missed dearly by family, friends, relatives and all who knew him.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lower Brule with burial of the ashes in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Lower Brule, SD.
