Funeral services for Ann M. Thiel, 66, of Chamberlain, SD will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024 at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain, SD. Visitation will begin Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain, SD.
Following the luncheon at the church, a social gathering to celebrate her life will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Silver Dollar in Chamberlain.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Annual Fishing for a Cure Charity Fishing Tournament reflecting Ann's lifelong commitment to helping others.
Ann Marie Thiel, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on June 27th, 2024, at the age of 66. Born on August 17, 1957, in Gregory, South Dakota, Ann was a beacon of love and dedication to her family and community.
Preceded in death by her father, John Hanig, mother, Orvilla Hanig, and brothers, John Michael Hanig and Mark Hanig, Ann leaves behind a legacy of compassion and service. She is survived by her devoted husband, Boyd Thiel; her loving children, Taya Swanson (husband Jason Swanson) and Travis Thiel; and her cherished grandchildren, Caleb Swanson and Kylie Swanson. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Beckman, and brothers, Fritz Hanig and Tony Hanig.
A proud graduate of Chamberlain High School, Ann cherished her time as a cheerleader, embodying the spirit and enthusiasm of her school community. Her professional life was marked by her role as Chief Financial Officer at Thiel's Collision Center, Inc., a family business that has been a cornerstone of the community for over 60 years. Her dedication and meticulous attention to detail were integral to the company's success.
Ann's community involvement was extensive and heartfelt. She served as the Treasurer of both the Lakers Car Club and the Valley Pool League, where her organizational skills and enthusiasm were deeply valued. Notably, she bested the #1 ranked women's player in the Valley Pool League, a testament to her competitive spirit and skill. Her altruism extended to numerous public outreach programs and charities, with notable contributions to the Wall of the Fallen, commemorating those who lost their lives during the Vietnam War, and the erection of the Lady Dignity monument.
A fervent Green Bay Packers fan, Ann's favorite player was Reggie White, whose spirit of excellence and integrity she admired. Her love for the Packers was only one facet of her vibrant personality, which was characterized by her generosity, kindness, and unwavering support for those in need.
Ann Marie Thiel's life was a testament to the power of giving and the importance of community. Her philanthropic efforts and genuine care for others have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but remembered with profound gratitude and love.
