With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved Alice Marie Cook, age 82 of Oacoma.
Alice was born on August 8, 1942 to Orvel and Florence (Hanten) Peddycoart in Fulda, MN. She attended school and graduated from Fulda High School in 1960. After graduation she moved to South Dakota to work on the Christiansen Ranch. This is where she met Roland Hickey. She fell head over heels in love when he swept her off her feet. They were united in marriage on June 1, 1963. From this union came two children, her pride and joy, Shelly and Rod. They truly were the light of her life.
While the kids were young, she was a homemaker and a waitress at Al's Oasis. After the kids had grown, she moved to Sioux Falls and continued waitressing. this is where she met Vern. Yup, she fell for Mr. Cook. On July 12, 1993 they tied the knot. Eventually she would come back to Oacoma and make it her forever home.
Alice 's lifelong love for horses, started on the farm as a little girl, with her colt, Lucky. She had a deep love for fishing and hunting, but her greatest joy was found in the warmth of her kitchen, where she lovingly prepared meals that brought family and friends together.
Alice had a habit of doodling, which led to night classes, where she refined her talent for drawing. she found true joy in sharing this passion with her grandchildren, nurturing in them, a love for creativity that would last a lifetime.
She was the heart of our family, a source of endless love, wisdom, and warmth. Whether through her kindness, her stories, or the meals she's so lovingly prepared, she touched the lives of all who knew her. While we will miss her dearly, we take comfort in all the memories she leaves behind and the love she instilled in all of us.
Gratefully sharing her life are her daughter: Shelly (Allen) Schoeppner of Oacoma, SD, brothers: Bob (Margaret) Peddycoart of Texas, Pat (Judy) Peddycoart of Iowa, sister-in-law Margey Peddycoart of Oacoma, SD, grandkids: Jeremy (Krista) Schoeppner of Whitewood, SD, Kim (Scott) Thomas of Oacoma, SD, Jason Schoeppner of California, Breann Schoeppner of the World, Shanell (Weston) Waugh of Chamberlain, SD, Kyle Hickey of Oacoma, SD, Great Grand Kids: Natalie Schoeppner, Devon Thomas, Hailey Thomas, Dylan Thomas, Ty Schoeppner, Trey Schoeppner, Allie Waugh, Maitreya Schoeppner, Ava Waugh, and many nieces and nephews.
