Obituary

Funeral services for Leland L. "Bud" Larson, 85, of Mitchell, formerly of Pukwana, SD will be Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 10 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Hickey-Wevik Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.

Leland Leonard Larson was born January 22, 1924 on a farm near Pukwana, SD to John and Laurel (LaVoy) Larson. He grew up north of Pukwana and graduated from Pukwana High School. He served two years in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He farmed, worked for Priebe Construction and Brule County Landfill. On July 14, 1950, Leland was united in marriage to Joyce Jacobs at the Kimball Lutheran Church in Kimball, SD. He was a member of the Pukwana Lutheran Free Church and the Pukwana American Legion. Bud loved visiting with people, playing cards and square dancing. He will be most remembered for his playful teasing of anybody and everybody he knew.
Bud passed away on June 7, 2009 at his home in Mitchell, SD at the age of 85 years. Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Joyce of Mitchell; four children Leland J. of Sioux Falls, SD, Ladonna of Kadoka, SD, Nova Griss and husband Jack of Pukwana, SD, and Doris Christiansen and husband Kim of Bismarck, ND; five grandchildren Lee Christiansen of Dallas, TX, Quinn Driscoll and husband Adam of Bismarck, ND, Hallea Griss of Vermillion, SD, Paige Christiansen of Minneapolis, MN, and Kyle Griss of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Bernice Borman, Vernon Jacobs and wife Connie, Howard Jacobs and wife Vivian, Marcia Jacobs, and Joan Juntunen; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him were his parents; three sisters Evelyn Houska, Dorothy Merwin, and Norma Dill; 6 brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
